Synopsis

December is an atmospheric chronicle of Argentina’s 2001 crisis, a political, economic, and social upheaval driven by the revolt “¡Que se vayan todos!” (“They all must go!”). The film reconstructs this moment using restored archival material, capturing the spontaneity of protests and the political instability that led to five presidential resignations. Through television footage, it immerses viewers in a real-time experience of this crucial period in Argentine history.

Director’s note

December does not reconstruct 2001 in retrospect, but evokes it as an echo that still unsettles the present. History repeats itself with an irony bordering on the absurd: the current Argentine government openly embraces the same economic policies that triggered the 2001 collapse, while adopting as its campaign slogan “They all must go,” the very cry that, in that December, was raised precisely against that political class. To know history is not an act of nostalgia; it is an act of resistance against repetition.
