Synopsis

DICIEMBRE is an atmospheric chronicle of Argentina’s 2001 crisis, a political, economic, and social upheaval driven by the revolt “¡Que se vayan todos!” (“They all must go!”). The film reconstructs this moment using restored archival material, capturing the spontaneity of protests and the political instability that led to five presidential resignations. Through television footage, it immerses viewers in a real-time experience of this crucial period in Argentine history.

Director’s note

“December” examines Argentina’s 2001 collapse—a paradigm shift in just 30 days—through found footage and cinéma vérité. Freed from their informative function, the images emerge as living fragments, open and charged with new meanings. How does that past affect us today? How did it transform us? What echoes still resonate in our present? The political dimension does not lie in judgment but in the ability to see anew, in the possibility of reexamining what endures. In this sense, December stands in the present as a form of cultural resistance against growing inequality and the recurring implementation of policies that, under the promise of change, seem to repeat the same logics of exclusion and social control.
