Synopsis
A car aficionado, filmmaker Paulo Carneiro travels 2000 kilometres to meet car enthusiasts of the Portuguese community in exile. In a pop and urban universe, Périphérique Nord explores this shared passion and the freedom it provides for these exiled persons who seem to finally find there a territory of their own.
Director’s note
I was fascinated by the cars that immigrants brought to Portugal on their summer vacations, and there was already a myth that some people rented cars to return to Portugal and show that they were successful. I am sure it is not a film about cars. It is a film that talks about all the other themes inherent in emigration that are on the agenda. It is an object of desire, at the same time it is an object that represents success. The car also serves as a form of integration because there are groups that have cars, some modified and others not, and they get together, and it is a way of living together. In Portugal, people gather to watch football; there, the car is used for these gatherings.
