ABOUT US

La pobladora cine is a Uruguayan production company specializing in arthouse cinema. It emerged from Alex Piperno’s initiative to produce his own films and support projects by other directors with similar artistic visions, viewing cinema as a collaborative activity and resulting in international co-productions. Our films have been exhibited at some of the world’s most prominent festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam, and New Directors/New Films. Among them are Lukas Rinner’s “Parabellum” (IFFR, 2015), Alex Piperno’s “Window boy would also like to have a submarine” (Berlinale, 2020) and “Savanna and the Mountain” by Paulo Carneiro (Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, 2024).

Alex Piperno (1985, Montevideo) is a director, producer and teacher graduated from the Universidad del Cine de Buenos Aires. He has directed short films such as “The inviolability of the domicile is based on the man who appears wielding an ax at the door of his house” (2011, Cannes Critics’ Week), as well as the feature film “Window boy would also like to have a submarine” (2020, Berlinale Forum). He is currently developing his second feature film, titled “Astarsa”. Through his production company La pobladora cine, he co-produced the feature films “Parabellum” by Lukas Rinner (IFFR, 2015), “Let the lights go out” by Javier Favot (FIDMarseille, 2020), as well as “Périphérique Nord” (Visions du Réel, 2022) and “The Savanna and the Mountain” (Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes, 2024), both by Paulo Carneiro. In addition, he coordinates spaces for film analysis and discussion at the Escuela de Cine de Uruguay among other places, and is a member of the board of Asoprod (Uruguayan Producers Association) and Dgu (Directors and Screenwriters of Uruguay).
